1. Do first time players call first or just show up? Please call the Director first (714-642-5604) so he knows you are coming and can roll out the red carpet. Every first time player is treated very nicely and is welcomed to Club 34 with open arms. We are Family and hope that you become members of our Family. We have some serious players and many who come to socialize and develop friendships.
2. What if I’m afraid to come to a Scrabble Club and don’t feel like I am good enough? Don’t be. Everyone had to start somewhere. Many of our new players are new to Club Scrabble and new to Scrabble the game. They have just played Words With Friends on their cell phones or computers, never with a live person! Don’t be afraid to come. You only will play with someone of like ability. As your skill set develops, you will begin to play stronger players. Be patient! It takes time but is very rewarding once you witness your game improving. 3. Should I eat before I come or bring my own food? No! The IHOP is an excellent restaurant with a wonderful food selection. It has let Club 34 play at the same location for over 25 years without charging a room rental so we strongly encourage all members to use its facilities. 4. Can I talk while I play? I love to socialize and make friends… Not during game play. Scrabble was meant to be played under quiet conditions because it is such a thoughtful game. Our current Noise Monitor will make sure we play quietly. Also turn OFF your cell phones while you are in the play area. It is not ok to make or receive a call while playing, to look at your cell phone while playing, etc… 5. What are Club Stats? They speak for themselves. You can always refer to the Stat Page to see how you are performing in relationship to the rest of the Club 34 players. The stats are divided into Div A and Div B players. 6. Is there a Director who manages Club 34? Our Club Director is Dr. David Poder. He also writes the Blog, which discusses the events of the prior Tuesday. He will include a biographical sketch of an existing member from time to time. Assistant director is Jeff Polan, who passed the NASPA Director test in 2017.
