The Huntington Beach Scrabble Club follows the official Tournament Rules of the North American Scrabble Players Association (NASPA). Please be familiar with them. You can download them off the NASPA website. We use the Official Tournament and Club Word list to adjudicate challenges.
If the player number is odd, we rotate one person to sit out per game. From time to time, the Director will sit out and help new players with strategy and rules of the game. Pairings are based on win-loss records and point spread within the division after the first game, with adjustments to avoid rematches, to prevent couples or family members from playing one another, and to ensure that players have appropriate opponents. The first game is paired randomly by the Director.
The Director may conduct FREE workshops throughout the year. Anagramming skills, board vision, rack management, time management and word knowledge are all important to the game.
All players should bring their own equipment. Each player is allotted 25 minutes on a game clock. Clock starts when the first player looks at the first tile. You must neutralize your clock to dispute scores, to call for the Director, or during challenges. Your turn does not end until you hit your clock. It’s now your opponent’s turn to make a play.
